Tulia, Texas—Charlene Stark, 77, died Sunday, March 16, 2014 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Karel Smith, pastor of First Christian Church and Rev. Oscar Chavez, Chaplain of Area Community Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Charlene was born on December 1, 1936 in Swisher County to Ray and JoAnn Lane. She grew up and was raised in Kress. She graduated form Kress High School as valedictorian in 1954. She married Carroll Stark on June 11, 1954 in Kress. They lived on the family farm in Claytonville where she was a mother and farmers wife for about 30 years before moving to Tulia. In 1973 she attended Wayland Baptist University where she later graduated. She worked on her master’s degree at West Texas State University in Canyon. She taught school at South Plains for several years. She then worked for the state as an adult case worker. Her real love was working for the elderly as a care giver and case worker. She later worked for Mid-Tule Village as an Advocate for the Elderly. She was named the 2012 Swisher County Woman of the Year. She was a gifted and talented musician and she was proud of the fact that she played music for every church in Tulia. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her son: Richie Stark. Her family includes one daughter: Twila Baker and husband Victor of Beaumont, one son: Terry Stark and wife Becky of Albany, Georgia, one sister: Joyce Walberg of Kress, three grandchildren: Shelley Swan and husband Jon of Leesburg, Georgia, Clay Baker of Beaumont and John David Stark of New Braunfels and one great granddaughter: Evelyn Rose Swan of Leesburg, Georgia. Memorials may be made to the: First Christian Church , First United Methodist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, Mid-Tule Village, all in Tulia or Claytonville Baptist Church.
