Leona “Oma” Maurer , 82, of Nazareth passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014 in Tulia.  The wake service will be held on Tuesday April 8, 2014 at 7:30 P.M., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 9, 2014 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth officiated by Father Ken Keller.  Burial will follow in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.  Leona was born on August 11, 1931 in Nazareth, Texas to F.P. and Lucille Schacher.  She grew up in Nazareth and graduated from high school in 1949.  She married Alfons “Al” Maurer on January 7, 1953.  She was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband throughout their married life.  She was an active member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, a member of the Christian Mother Society, and an avid prayer warrior for anyone who needed help.   She volunteered as an Election clerk and was a huge Dallas Cowboy and Texas Ranger Fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Alfons “Al” Maurer; parents F.P. and Lucille Schacher; one brother, Eugene Schacher; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Maurer; and one son-in-law, Virgil Brockman. Survivors include her six children, Lucy Pohlmeier and husband Walt of Tulia, Stanley Maurer and wife Tina of Dimmitt, Duane Maurer and wife Donna of White Deer, Shirley Brockman of Dimmitt, Paula Acker and husband Frank of Amarillo, Allen Maurer and wife Melinda of Albany; two brothers, Edwin Schacher of Nazareth and Robert Schacher of Tulia; four sisters, Catherine Hochstein and Margie Albracht both of Nazareth, Georgianne McCormick of Amarillo, Rosalie Davis of Los Altos, CA; 20 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Tulia Health and Rehab, 714 S. Austin, Tulia, Texas 79088 or Area Community Hospice, 4300 Olton Rd., Plainview, Texas 79072.
