Tulia, Texas—Shirley Stark, 79, died Saturday, April 5, 2014 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 9, 2014 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Shirley was born February 1, 1935 in Pike, Texas to Jack and Velta Sims. She grew up in Lockney and graduated from Lockney High School. She married Edwin Stark on January 4, 1960. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Nichols Hospital in Plainview for several years. She was a caregiver for a lot of folks for several years. She was an avid bowler and a member of the Kress United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband: Edwin Stark, her daughter: Karen Stark, her son: Charles “Chuck” Helton, her brother: Bill Sims, her sister: Juanita Sparks and her grandson: Dusty Helton. She is survived by three daughters: Cindy Carothers and husband Tommy of Tulia, Sharon Helton of Amarillo, and Kathie Gorman and husband Kenneth of Pleasant View, Colorado, two sons: Kenny Helton of Pampa and Bill Sparks of Oklahoma City, OK, seven grandchildren: Stacy Hall of Plainview, Billie Helton of Plainview, Amy Newsome and husband Truman of Hart, Misti Helton of Lubbock, Brandon Helton of Lubbock, Eric Carothers of Tulia and Tanner Carothers of Amarillo, seven great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Kress United Methodist Church, American Lung Association or to the Integracare Hospice.
