Tulia, Texas— Roy Spear, 88, died Monday, July 21, 2008 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Terry Hart, pastor, officiating. Mr. Spear was born September 19, 1920 in Rock Creek, Texas to Cecil Robert and Minerva (Jasper) Spear. He graduated from Tulia High School. He joined the US Navy and served 40 months during WWII. He married Alice Book on January 28, 1946 and they moved to Tulia. He owned and operated Spear’s Machine and Welding as a welder and machinist for several years and later worked with the Hamby Co. before retiring. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife; Alice Spear of Tulia, one brother; Crawford Spear of Lubbock, one sister; Cecil Anna Joyner of California and a special niece; Billie Jean Rice of Houston. He is preceded in death by two sisters; Amo Dee Pierce and Helen White.
