Jose “Captain” Salinas, 68, of Plainview passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April May 3, 2014 at Kornerstone Funeral Chapel. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Salinas was born August 27, 1945 in Donna, Texas to Eleazar and Bernarda Salinas. He grew up there in Donna and attended schools there. He graduated from Flour Bluff High School in Corpus Christi. He then attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi for three years. He served in the U.S. Army for 10 years and served in Vietnam. After his military service, he was a Jack of All trades and did a little bit of everything. He was the head of security for Securitas in Lubbock and worked for Azteca for 12 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and attended St. Alice Catholic Church from time to time. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He married Beatrice Cantu on February 14, 1970 in Aransas Pass, Texas. Survivors include his wife Beatrice Salinas of Plainview; two sons, Thomas Edmond Miller of Plainview, Jose Eleazar Salinas, Jr. of Dothan, Alabama; one daughter, June McMickings of Plainview; three brothers, Frank Salinas of Putnam, Connecticut, Eloy Salinas of Las Vega, Nevada, Felix Salinas of Plainview; two sisters, Rita Kesslings of Corpus Christi, Soledad Salinas of Beeville; 6 grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Glenda Ickes of Corpus Christi.
