Tulia, Texas—Dessie Ruby Marie Evans, 93, went to be with Lord on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 16, 2014 in the First Baptist Church in Tulia with Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Evan was born December 15, 1920 in Tulia to Roy and Lela Bivens. She moved to New Mexico and went to school in Roswell, New Mexico for one year. In 1928, she moved with her mother and two sisters to Tulia. Dessie attended school in Tulia and graduated in 1938. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Tulia. On November 5, 1939 she married W.J (Bill) Evans in Tulia. Dessie worked at Heard & Jones Drugstore for 39 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, W.J. Evans and two sisters, Dora Bonds and Dorthy West. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Sue McCune of Amarillo, Texas, two sons; Robert D. Evans and wife Betty of Bay City, Texas and Thomas Wayne Evans of Tulia, Texas; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
