Tulia, Texas— Marie Gruben, 88, died Sunday, August 17, 2008 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2008 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. James Hassell officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Marie was born March 7, 1920 in De Leon, Texas to Bill and Nola Marshall Stanford. She grew up in Hedley and graduated from high school there. She married D.B. Thomas in 1940 and they lived in Hedley for a few years. They moved to Amarillo, Floydada, Roswell and then to Tulia in 1963. She owned a dress shop in Tulia and also owned Thomas Hardware with her husband. Mr. Thomas died in 1968. She married Valton Gruben in 1972. She worked for Amburn’s in Tulia. Mr. Gruben died in 1998. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Tulia. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law; Karen and Buddy Washington of Tulia, two grandchildren; Rick and wife Beth Bullock of Amarillo and Rusty Bullock of Littleton, Colorado, nine great grandchildren; Wesley and Georgia Bullock of Amarillo, Michael Bullock of Mustang, Oklahoma, Bella, Brody and Tanner Bullock, all of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Brayden, Ashlyn, and Bryson White, all of Happy, Texas and her step-sons; Ron and wife Linda Gruben and family of Bedford, Gary and wife Princess Gruben and family of Johnson City.
