Larry Dean Johnson,67 of Tulia, followed his beloved daughter Tammy home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 12, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Davenport officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Larry was born July 24, 1946 in Tulia to F.A. and Nettie McKone Johnson. He married his high school sweetheart Vera Shepard of Happy, Texas on February 25, 1967. He worked for Skinny Berry for many years. In 1978 he began his own business, Johnson’s Backhoe Service. Larry enjoyed his business for many years until he retired in 2013. Larry was employed with Tulia I.S.D. for 30 years. He drove a route bus twice daily and the activity bus, “Hornet Bus” for countless extra curricular activities for Tulia I.S.D. Larry took pride in supporting all students in any extra curricular activity in which they were involved in. He also drove the First Baptist Church bus for several years to help the elderly attend church services on Sunday mornings. He is preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Tammy Morgan. He is survived by his wife: Vera Johnson of Tulia; one daughter: Michelle Cure & husband Kelly of Dimmitt; one son: Jim Bob Johnson & wife Gloria of Tulia; son-in-law: Reuben Morgan of Amarillo; two brothers: Clyde Johnson & wife Marilyn of Happy and Don Johnson of Tulia and four grandchildren: Chance Cozbey & fiancé Melissa of Amarillo, Trace Johnson of Tulia, Faith Johnson of Tulia and Noel Cure of Dimmitt.. Memorials may be made to the Tulia Cemetery Association.
