W.H. "Bill" Kirby (Plainview)

W.H. “Bill” Kirby, 78, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2014. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with Mr. Robert Malcolm and Dr. Max Browning officiating. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Bill was born on March 3, 1936 in San Angelo, Texas to Hale & Katherine Kirby. He and his family moved to Cotton Center in 1941. While in High School he joined the Marine Corps Reserve, serving for 8 years. Bill went to School in Cotton Center where he played on the first football team. He attended Kemper Military School. He returned to Cotton Center to farm with his Dad. Bill married Carlene Cearley on June 30, 1957. He was a charter member of the Lions Club serving as President and various other positions. He was an active member of the Cotton Center Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees and was active in Methodist Men, having made several trips to the Methodist home to deliver vegetables. In 1996 he moved to Plainview with his wife. In 1997 he retired from farming. Bill joined First United Methodist of Plainview, serving on the Board of Trustees and singing in the choir. He joined Lions Club where he was very active. Bill enjoyed golfing, bridge and fishing. Bill is survived by his wife: Carlene Kirby; two sons: Chip Kirby & wife Cindy of Cotton Center and Aaron Kirby & wife Stephanie of Cotton Center; grandchildren: Courtney Watts, Chance Kirby & fiancée Tara, Sarah & Jonathan Upton, Kyle & Kaegan Kirby, Shawn Sexton, Kevin Sexton, Tiffani Sexton & fiancée Stephen and great grandchildren: Brian, Braden, Taeler and Laiken.
