Ginger Pool passed away Sunday, August 3rd at her son’s home in Powell, Wyoming. She was resilient and ever hopeful in her fight against ovarian cancer to the end. Ginger was born on February 4, 1940 in Corsicana, Texas to Leon and Vera Melton. In 1945, they moved to a farm outside of Plainview. Ginger graduated from Plainview High School in 1958. She married Larry Pool in 1960 and had two sons, Jeffrey and David. But their happy family was cut apart by a tragic car accident in 1967 that took the lives of Larry and Jeffrey. Ginger married Bill Hayes a few years later, and they moved to Austin, Texas where they would live for the next twenty years. She enjoyed boating and skiing on Lake Austin and entertaining guests in her home on the lake. She especially was blessed to sing in the choir at Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin. In 1992, she returned to Plainview to live with her mother after her father’s passing. Ginger loved working at First Baptist Church, where she served for 15 years as a secretary for Education and Music. Ginger very much enjoyed choral music, as she sang in church choirs most of her life. She was actively involved in a number of ministries and organizations, such as the Ladies’ Bible Class at First Baptist, Bible Study Fellowship, P.E.O., Omega Delphin Study Club, and many other church and community activities. She also loved visits from her family and visiting her grandchildren in Wyoming. In addition to Larry and Jeffrey, she was preceded in death by Bill Hayes, father and mother-in-law Mart and Mattie Pool, and her parents, Leon and Vera Melton. She is survived by her son David and daughter-in-law Vel, her grandchildren Courtnie, Jeffrey, Matthew, and Jack, brother-in-law Gayland Pool (Katie Sherrod) and cousins Carlton and Emma Holland. Funeral services will be at 2pm on Friday, August 8th at First Baptist Church. Visitation at Kornerstone Funeral Home will be Thursday, August 7th from 6-8pm. Memorial gifts may be directed to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, 2501 Oak Lawn Ave., Ste. 435, Dallas, TX 75219 (By phone at 1-888-Ovarian or online at www.ovarian.org ).
