Nathan Lee Welch (Plainview)

Nathan Lee Welch, 86, of Plainview passed away on September 6, 2008 in Plainview. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2008 at the First Baptist Church-Chapel in Plainview with Dr. Travis Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens in Amarillo under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Welch was born on January 21, 1922 in Abilene, TX to L.H. and Beulah Welch. He married Roberta Walker on March 4, 1944 in Leadwood Missouri. They moved to Plainview in 1979. He was a member of the Lion’s Club for over 50 years and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and First Baptist Church. He volunteered at Covenant Hospital as well. Lee spent his adult life serving his communities in school administration. He was a principal in Amarillo. He then served as Superintendent in Booker, McLean and his last 15 years in Kress. Upon retirement he spent many years serving at local and state levels of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. He enjoyed each community and left many good friends behind. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and was best known for the love and hospitality he extended to friends and family.. Survivors include one son, Derrith Welch of Petrolia; one daughter, Vicki Clark & husband Danny of Lockney; one brother, Leslie Welch of Plainview; five sisters, Aileen Siewert of Lubbock, June Sales of North Richland Hills, Twila Meador of Ft. Worth, Jill Ramsey of Plainview and Buena Adcock of North Richland Hills; five grandchildren, Carissa Kennedy & husband Clay of Austin, Jarrod Clark & wife Sawyer of Amarillo, Allyson Clark of Dallas, Brian Welch of Petrolia and Patrick Welch of Petrolia, two great grandchildren, Kayma & Kylie Clark of Amarillo and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Welch in 1991 and a son Jeffrey Welch in 1957. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, 3411 73rd St., Lubbock, TX 79423.
