Tulia, Texas—Jack Thornton, 84, died Thursday, August 28, 2014 in Plainview. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 30, 2014 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Harold Abney, retired Methodist pastor officiating. Cremation burial will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia at a later date. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Jack Thornton was born July 21, 1930 in Jack Co., Texas to Oscar Heath and Verna Thornton. He grew up and attended schools at Joplin, Texas before moving to Tulia in his late teens. He married Erlene Hudson. He worked for Allan Doan delivering tractors and repairing tractor tires and also worked for Love Brothers and Tulia Auto Parts for several years. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Erlene Thornton, one daughter: Vicky Janelle Schaeffer, two brothers: Dozier “Son” Thornton and Mike Thornton and two sisters: Nedra Gilbreath and Mildred Spencer. He is survived by his son-in-law: Milton Schaeffer and wife Betty of Lockney, one sister: Ludie Martin of Malakoff, Texas, three grandchildren: Tricia Clay of Plainview, Erin Schaeffer of Amarillo and Melissa Suttle of Amarillo and six great grandchildren: Matthew Prather of Lubbock, LeeAnn Prather of Plainview, Gabriel Rodriguez of Plainview, Michael Clay of Plainview, Caleb Young of Amarillo, Nash Young of Amarillo.
