Jim graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1952. He worked a variety of jobs as a young man but his main love was rodeo. He was a successful roughstock cowboy winning many all-around titles. In the late 1960’s his attention turned to horse racing. Experiencing success right away, a long successful career began. He trained for over 40 years winning many graded stakes. Jim was also an avid golfer. A tough competitor at whatever he was doing, whether it was bowling, a game of pool, or a round of golf. But most of all Jim loved his grandkids.
