Tulia, Texas— Dora Hazel Bonds, 90, died Sunday, September 14, 2008 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the First Baptist Church with her granddaughter, Lee Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Dora Bivens was born December 30, 1917 in Ft. Sumner, NM to Roy and Lela Bivens. She grew up in New Mexico until she was 10 years old, when she and her mother and two sisters moved to Tulia in 1928. Dora attended school in Tulia starting in 4th grade through high school, graduating in 1936. She accepted Jesus as her savior early in life at the First Baptist Church in Tulia and has remained there all her life and served there as a Junior Department Superintendent for several years. Dora and J.C. Bonds were married September 4, 1936 and lived in the Red Hill Community for several years as farmers. Survivors include two daughters: Betty Jean Winfrey of Burlington, Colorado and Mary Lou Roach of Tulia, 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren. Dora has two sisters; Dorothy West and Dessie Evans, both living in Tulia and one half-sister; Ruby Hendricks of Roswell, NM. She is preceded in death by her husband; J.C. Bonds, one daughter; Evelyn Marie Davidson, one half-sister; Ruthie Hightower. Memorials may be made to the Senior Citizens Center, 619 SE 2nd St., Tulia, Texas 79088.
