Tulia, Texas—Roy Eugene Miller, 72, went to be with the Lord, September 18, 2008. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2008 in the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation for friends and family will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008 at the funeral home. Roy was born December 30, 1935 in Crosby County, Texas to Olif and Floy (Lott) Miller. He grew up in the Floydada area and attended Floydada schools. He married Catherine Appling in March 1956. Roy’s career was a variety of occupations. He entered the US Air Force in 1954 and was stationed in Lincoln, Nebraska when he left in 1958. Roy had obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Roy and his family then moved several times before settling in Tulia. He was manager for Food Town and Piggly Wiggly. He then worked at Bob’s Supermarket while obtaining a B.S. and M.A. in education at West Texas University. He was a Jr. High History teacher and counselor for the Tulia Public School System from 1971-1992. Then in retirement he worked at B & R Supermarket and at Kmart. He also taught 3 years at Plainview Christian Academy. Recently he was working as the Facility Coordinator at the place he loved, First UMC, Tulia. Roy was involved in Lions Club for 35 years and was active in the United Methodist church serving on several local and Conference level committees and an elected delegate to the NW Texas Annual Conference for many years. He loved to travel to historical sites and visit his grandkids. Roy also enjoyed working in his yard and loved working with wood. Roy was preceded in death by his dad, Olif Miller, his step-dad and mother, J.D. and Floy Thomas, a son-in-law, Keith Heitschmidt and three grandsons. Roy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Catherine Appling Miller of Tulia, two step-sisters; Glenna Lainio of Lion, Illinois and Marilyn Thompson of Rockwall, Texas. Also his five children; Marty Miller and his wife Cindy of Abilene; Joyce Willis and her husband Scott of Big Spring; Sara Heitschmidt of Hurst; Janet Lamborn and her husband Dasin of Claude; and Robert Miller and his wife Kelly of Midland. Roy had 10 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren.
