Wayne George, 88, died Tuesday, January 3, 2006. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2006 in the First Baptist Church with Mr. Gerald Bedwell, Elder of 11 & Amarillo Church of Christ in Plainview, Texas officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mr. George was born April 6, 1917 in Tulia. He grew up in the Kaffir community and attended schools there. He was a longtime Farmer/Rancher in Swisher County. He was an avid volunteer for Tulia Senior Citizens and Meals on Wheels. He was twice named Tulia’s Outstanding Volunteer of the Year. He also served on the Library Board, and the Memorial Board. He was a true lover of farm life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He married Gennie V. Payne on Aug. 7, 1938 in Clovis, NM. Survivors include his wife, Gennie V. George of Tulia; a daughter and son-in-law, Gaye and Don Young of Tulia; a son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Sue George of Tulia; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Golden and Artelle Thompson. The family suggest memorials to the RSVP, 619 SE 2nd, Tulia, Texas 79088.
