Homer M. Pirkle, 90, of Plainview began a new life with his Lord & Savior in Heaven on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at his residence in Plainview. A tribute to his life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at College Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Pirkle was born on May 9, 1918 in Grayson County, Texas to Jeff and Sally Pirkle. He married Glorice Elaine Campbell on January 25, 1941 in Levelland. They moved to Edmonson in 1947 where they farmed, then moved to Plainview in 1982. He was engaged in farming for almost 50 years. His marriage to Glorice began a life of service to his family. He was very active in his church, Brotherhood, a Sunday School teacher and participated in mission trips to Mexico. His life was a patriarch of faith to his family and friends. He was called Grandpa Pirkle by many who knew and loved him. He was always helping out in the kitchen. Glorice, his wife who was a quadriplegic of 29 years, taught him to prepare many dishes, two of which people asked him to make. He was known for his peanut brittle and pecan pies. He loved to make them and enjoyed going out into the community talking to people and selling his brittles and pies. Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Durham & husband Jimmy of Kress, Mary Lou Armstrong & husband Tommy of Dumas and Elaine Prince & husband Bill of Seminole; two sons, Larry Pirkle & wife Janis of Dumas and Richard Pirkle & wife Doris of Lubbock; one sister, Jackie Turner of Lubbock; one brother, Gayle Pirkle of Comanche; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of almost 65 years, two sisters, one brother, one daughter-in-law and one grandson. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Friday, September 26, 2008 at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to your favorite charity.
