Tulia, Texas—Bettye Jo Starnes, 79, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2008 at Swisher Memorial Hospital in Tulia. Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 29, 2008 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia. Arrangements are under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Bettye was born on October 21, 1928 in Stamford to Grady and Alta Thurman. She grew up in Ropesville and attended schools there. She played on the Basketball team and graduated from Ropesville High School. She worked with her parents at Thurman Drug where she had many duties. She was a great wife and mother and was the best cook. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Curtis Clark Ross; second husband, Lou Starnes; a daughter, Carol Jean Ross; her parents, 2 sisters and a brother. Survivors include a daughter, Kay Weilhart and husband Dick of Tulia; five sons, Bud Ross and wife Kathy of Amarillo, Clark Ross and wife Choe of Colorado Springs, CO, Wesley Ross and wife Joni of Tulia, Thurman Ross and wife Brenda of Mesquite, Todd Starnes of Amarillo; a daughter of the heart, Betsy Berry of Amarillo; one brother, G.C. Thurman of Bartlesville, OK; two sisters, Claudine May and husband Edwin of Silverton, Ann Mayfield and husband Aubrey of Ropesville; 18 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchildren; and Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
