John Emery Andrus (Tulia)

John Emery Andrus, 87, died Wednesday, January 4, 2006 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2006 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Blum, pastor and Rev. Clifford Trotter, retired Methodist minister from Polk Street Methodist Church in Amarillo, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mr. Andrus was born March 6, 1918 in Willow, Oklahoma. He attended schools in Duke, Oklahoma and moved to Swisher County in 1940. He was a farmer. He married Linnie Vineyard on February 12, 1941 and she died December 1, 1998. He married Gwen Walker on March 6, 2000 in Amarillo. He was a member of the Kress Co-op Gin board. He was a member of the Kress City Council where he helped obtain the water rights for the City of Kress. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the finance committee. He organized Kress’ first little league baseball charter. He played in Domino tournaments and enjoyed it very much. Survivors include his wife; Gwen Walker Andrus of Plainview, TX., two sons and daughters-in-law; Charles and Janis Andrus of Tulia and Marlin and Connie Andrus of Kress, one step-son; J.B. “Sonny” Walker of Kress, two step-daughters; Lynda Tye of Kress and Gayle Graham of Cullman, Alabama, one brother; Charles Royce Andrus of Arlington, Texas, three grandchildren; Lisa Schott of Silverton, Cristy Bennett of Plainview and Craig Andrus of Kress, seven great grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and 13 great step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife; Linnie Andrus, two brothers; Raymond Andrus and Vernon Andrus, one sister; Jewel Crawford and one grandson; Mark Andrus. Family and friends visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Memorials may be made to the Tulia Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 116, Tulia, TX. 79088 or to First United Methodist Church, 110 Ripley St., Kress, Texas 79052.
