Tulia, Texas— Ray Simpson, 83, died Friday, October 24, 2014 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 28, 2014 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Ernie McGaughey officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 27, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Ray was born in Tulia on May 22, 1931 to Cecil and Rilla Lee Simpson. He grew up in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School in 1948. He started working for Conner Motors in 1948 as a part’s man and worked his way up to Shop Forman. He went to work for Cosby Motors in 1951 and worked there until 1961 when he and his dad opened Cecil and Ray’s Garage on E. Broadway. He married Evelyn Fleming on August 17, 1952 in Paducah. They moved to the current location on SW. 2nd St. in July 1963 and he worked there until he retired in 2008. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers: Wendall Simpson and Edward Simpson and two sisters: Willie Belle Webb and Joyce Ann Simpson. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Patrice and Jerry Sims of Tulia, one son and daughter-in-law: Larry and Liz Simpson of Mt. Morris, NY, his twin sister: Faye Webb of Lubbock, six grandchildren: Cameron and Michelle Bowers of Tulia, Raylyn Bowers of Tulia, Jason Simpson of Mt. Morris, NY, Madison Simpson of Mt. Morris, NY, Wesley Sims of Happy and Wyatt Sims of Happy and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Tulia Cemetery Association, PO Box 116, Tulia, Texas 79088.
