Zaphryn Green (Plainview)

Zaphryn Lacy Green, 57 of Plainview passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, in Plainview much to the deep sorrow of her family and friends. Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 20, 2008 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Travis Hart officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Zaphryn (nee Mary Zafferine Tandy), the second daughter of Walter Lacy and Elaine Viola Miller Tandy was born in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico on September 12, 1951. She graduated from high school in Boise City, Oklahoma in 1969 and from Wayland Baptist University in 1973. She married James M. (Jim) Green on May 20, 1981 in Plainview, Texas. After her graduation from Wayland, Zaphryn worked for several clothing and gift stores including Skibell’s, True Value Hardware, Our House Gifts, Marse & Sons, Suzanne’s Hallmark and Old World Antiques before finally realizing her dream of opening her own store, Zaphryn’s Beautiful Things on October 15, 2005. She was also active in the Plainview Chamber of Commerce, Hale County Literacy Council and Plainview Downtown Association. Zaphryn was a “people person” always giving her time, talent or whatever was needed to help her family and friends. She and Jim unselfishly cared for their family and were there for anyone needing a hand. Her last gift was being an organ donor. Zaphryn had a gift for writing and had kept journals since 1970, citing her thoughts and memories, good and bad. She enjoyed reading, spending time at Unger Memorial Library whenever possible and she also enjoyed decorating her home. Another passion was her beautiful flower garden; reaped from seedlings and seeds from her many friends’ gardens; she passed seedlings and seeds on to others as well. Celebrating her life and mourning her death are her husband Jim Green of the home; her mother: Elaine Tandy of Plainview; two sisters: Marilyn Webb and husband Lanny of Plainview and Teresa Taylor and husband Larry of Amarillo; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Steve Green and wife Judy of Waco; three nephews: Robert Mayhan of Lubbock, Preston Webb of Montezuma, Kansas and Aaron Green of Waco; three nieces: Rhonda Begley of Amarillo, Melissa Duffy of Lubbock and Lacy Harlin of Minneapolis, Kansas and their families; her godchildren: Cameron Vaughan, Caitlin Vaughan, Breanna Payne and Kristin Leigh Payne all of Plainview; and numerous special friends. She is preceded in death by her father: Walter Tandy in 1987, her mother-in-law: Sue Green in 2004 and her father-in-law: Vic Green in 2008. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Hale County Literacy Council, Plainview Senior Citizens, Wayland Baptist University or charity of your choice. Visitation with family will be held in the parlor of the First Baptist Church immediately following the memorial service.
