Wanda Sue Wallace, 68, of Plainview, departed this life on Saturday, October 18, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Services celebrating her life will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at 9th & Columbia Street Church of Christ in Plainview with Colquitt Nash officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. The family will greet friends on Monday, October 20, 2008, from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Wanda was born on February 24, 1940, in Morton, Texas to John Henry & Mary Bailey Chesshir. She graduated from Morton High School in 1958 and later from Jessie Lee’s School of Cosmetology in Lubbock. After graduation she married Leo Wallace in Morton on May 31, 1958. Their life together brought them to Plainview where she was a Mother and homemaker while her children were young. Wanda worked at Bud’s Furniture and Appliance and later managed Dee Dee’s Dress Shop, retiring after 25 years in retail. Wanda loved many activities including gardening, riding motorcycles, traveling in the RV and boating. She enjoyed singing with the Millennium Singers and was happy to help sing at area nursing homes. She was a member of DAR and involved in the local Genealogy Society. Those left to cherish the many sweet memories are her husband Leo Wallace, one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Rocky Buckner of Plainview; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Kim Wallace of McKinney, Rickey and Lee Wallace of Abilene; two granddaughters, Rynn and Maeve Wallace of Abilene; one step grandson, Joshua Pipkin and two step great grandchildren, Collin and Pressley Pipkin of Amarillo; three sisters, Lavern Cox of Lubbock, Freda Cooper of San Angelo and Glenda Taylor of Andrews. She was preceded in death by her parents John Henry and Mary Bailey Chesshir and one brother Jessie Ray Chesshir. Wanda leaves a legacy of strength, laughter, love and sunshine. The family wishes to thank the many special friends for all the prayers, love and support during this difficult time. Also a very special thanks to Area Home Health and her wonderful nurse Kim, and to the caregivers at Hospice of Lubbock.
