Olene Yates, 90, of Plainview, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 21, 2014 at College Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Don Robertson officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Olene was born on March 15, 1924 in Plainview to Walter and Dollie Hurt. She grew up on a farm near Olton. Olene attended schools in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School. She then attended nursing school. Olene worked for Hale County State Bank for 26 years and retired as a Vice President. She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church, volunteer with R.S.V.P., and member of the Women’s Banking Association. Olene married Bud Edward Yates in 1943 and he preceded her in death in 1968. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dollie Elaine Johnson and a sister, Erma Lee Cox. Survivors include one daughter, Trish Hart of Plainview; one son, James Yates of Midland, Texas; two sisters, Lyvonne Davis of Benbrook, Texas and Katherine Meester of Loma Linda, California; five grandchildren, Brian Yates, Jennifer Harper, Chastain Johnson, Lloyd Johnson, Tamera Augustine; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Brain Yates, Chastain Johnson, Lloyd Johnson, Phil Cox, Darwin Cox, John Harper, and Jeff Cox. The family suggests memorials go to the College Heights Baptist Church, 802 Quincy St., Plainview, TX 79072.
