Marvin Franklin Goddard, 87, of Plainview, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2008, in Plainview. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 27, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church in Plainview with Dr. Mark Stoub officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. The family will greet friends on Sunday, October 26, 2008, from 4-5 P.M. at the funeral home. Marvin was born on November 13, 1920, in Plainview, Texas to Fredric & Margaret Bogart Goddard who had moved to Plainview in 1915. He graduated as salutatorian from Running Water School in 1938. Marvin earned his Associate of Arts degree from Wayland Baptist Junior College where he was a member of the Jackrabbit basketball team. He served in the Army’s 135th Armored Ordinance Maintenance Battalion of the 13th Armored Division in France and Germany during World War II. He married Mildred Floyd of Plainview on August 21, 1944. After the war, he farmed his beloved family farm in the Edmonson area for more than 50 years. Marvin was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an ordained elder and deacon. He recently had established the Marvin and Mildred Goddard Endowed Scholarship at Wayland Baptist University. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred who died in 2002, his infant daughter Cheryl, his sister Awa Robertson, and his parents. Survivors include one son, Gaylan & wife Lynn of Plainview; three granddaughters, Meagan Goddard of Addison, Angela Roberts & husband Marcus of Irving, Corrie McPherson & husband Jeff of Plano; one great grandson, Cole Roberts of Irving; two nieces, Ronda Sikes & husband Jimmy of Slaton and Carmen Henderson & husband Wayne of Hereford and two nephews, Aaron Robertson & wife Brenda of Taylor and Kelby Robertson & wife Tamara of Wink..
