Doris Carlton (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas— Doris Carlton, 79, died at 8:34a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2006 in Lubbock. Graveside services will be held at 2:00p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2006 in Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Ted Latham, her son-in-law and chaplain for Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock officiating and assisted by Larry Stewart, lay minister at Central Church of Christ in Tulia. Doris was born January 13, 1927 on Howard County, Texas. She grew up in Ackerly, Texas and graduated from high school there. She married Ray Carlton on February 1, 1946 in Ackerly. They moved to Tulia in 1952. She graduated from the Panhandle Regional Law Enforcement Academy. She was a Deputy Sheriff for Swisher County for 13 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Mr. Carlton died August 5, 2003. She moved to Lubbock in Sept. 2003. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lubbock. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law; Carla and Ted Latham of Lubbock and one son and daughter-in-law; Jim and Lana Carlton of Tulia, 3 grandchildren; Jessica and Jeremy Hatley of Lubbock, Texas, Laurie and Jason Johnson of Plainview, Texas and Callie and Trevor Overman of Carrollton, Texas and 1 great grandson; Blake Johnson of Plainview, Texas.
