Ilene Hennig(Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Ilene Dempsey Hennig, 93, died Wednesday, December 17, 2014 in Tulia. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, December 19, 2014 in the Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jason Stone, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Ilene was born August 25, 1921 in Newland, Texas to L.J. and Lula Crawford. She graduated high school from Estellene. She married George Dempsey on February 9, 1942. They lived in Amarillo. George died July 1956. She then went to work for Kerr Paper Co. in Amarillo. She married John Hennig on August 6, 1966 and they moved to Tulia in 1970 and owned the hardware store here. John died in 1972. Ilene continued to run the hardware store until the mid 1980’s when she sold it. She was also a bookkeeper for Senior Citizens and retired at the age of 70. She is survived by her daughter: Donna Dempsey Griffin of Tulsa, OK, her son: Jack Dempsey of Amarillo, two grandchildren: Veronica Griffin Scott and husband Doug of Tulsa and Jeffrey Griffin of Denver, CO and four great grandchildren: Matthew Scott and Christopher Scott of Tulsa and Dakota Griffin and Cody “Red” Griffin of Denver.
