Mary Jo Chandler, 57, of Hale Center, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, December 22, 2014 at First United Methodist Church of Hale Center with Rev. Jimmy Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in Hale Center Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mary Jo was born on November 27, 1957 to Leonard & Betty Jo Bartels in Hereford, TX. She graduated from Hereford High School in 1976. She graduated with her bachelors degree in elementary education in 1981 from West Texas State University. She taught at Mesa Verde Elementary in Amarillo for 12 years and worked for Hale Center ISD for 18 years. She served as an officer for the ATPE. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee for many years. Mary Jo was a dedicated teacher and supportive & devoted coach’s wife and a very loving mother. She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Paul of Hale Center; daughter, Kacy Chandler of Lubbock; son, Colby Chandler & wife Kaysee of Canyon, TX; four brothers, Bill Bartels of Amarillo, TX, Mark Bartels & wife Sylvia of Amarillo, TX, Bruce Bartels of Hereford, TX and Steve Bartels & wife Sandra of Canyon, TX; five sisters, Connie Goheen & husband Dennis of Littlefield, TX, Jean Ann Swanson & husband Jack of Panhandle, TX, Gail Saiz of Amarillo, TX, Cathy Chase & husband Robert of Amarillo, TX, and Christie Vanlandingham & husband Kyle of Frederick, CO; two grandchildren, Bentley & Paxton; and her in laws, Winston & Ollie Chandler of Amarillo, TX.
