Joan Elaine Barnes Ford, 72, of Plainview, passed away on January 3, 2015 in Dallas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Garland Street Church of Christ with Mr. Weldon Melton officiating and Mr. Steve Barrett assisting. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Kornerstone. Joan was born on February 23, 1942 in Rotan, Texas to Frank and Opal Barnes. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1960. She met Denver Ford while attending College. They married on September 1, 1961. Joan graduated from Lubbock Christian College in 1962. They lived in Artesia, N.M. before moving to Seminole, Texas. They then moved to Plainview where she owned and operated the Snack Shack in downtown Plainview from 1980-1987. Joan worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Estacado, La Mesa, and Thunderbird Schools for 30 years before retiring in 2014. She was a wife, mom, grandmother, daughter, sister, cousin, friend, teacher…and above all else a Christian lady. Joan was a member of the Garland Street Church of Christ. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Fred Barnes. Survivors include her husband, Denver Ford of Plainview; her children, Delynna Smith and husband Bobby of Plainview, Tim Ford of Lubbock, Denny Ford and wife Kathy of Amarillo, Mariann Thompson and husband John of Grapon, WV; one brother, Ronn Barnes and wife Patty of Amarillo; one sister, Donna Barnes of Lubbock; eight grandchildren, Jared and Veronica Smith, Dustin and Samantha Smith, Krista and Josh Timms, Robin and Donald Dean, Shelley Moore, Brittany Thompson, John Michael Thompson, Courtney Thompson; and six great-grandchildren, Braxton, Logan, Scarlet, Sloan, Foster, and Claire.
