Willetta Faye Isom, 77, of Plainview passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Funeral services will be at 10 A.M. Saturday, January 24, 2015 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will follow in the Lockney Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6 to 8 at Kornerstone. Willetta was born on September 21, 1937 to C.M. and Travis Elizabeth Tucker in Hobbs, New Mexico. She had two older sisters and two younger brothers. She lived on an oil lease in Oil Center, New Mexico as a young child. She told many stories of adventures she had riding up and down on the sucker rod of oil wells and riding her bike down dusty, sandy roads. When she moved into the town of Hobbs, she began attending school there and excelled in choir. She qualified for All State A’cappella choir each year! Following graduation in 1955, she attended Eastern New Mexico University where she followed her passion for singing. She learned to yodel and entertained many audiences with her singing and yodeling. Willetta moved to the Lockney area in 1959 and began working for the Paymaster Seed Company at Aiken, Texas. That is where she met her future husband, Jack Isom. They were married on September 8, 1961 and continued to live in Lockney/Aiken area while farming. Willetta became an event planner for the Cargill Corporation and traveled extensively coordinating conventions for the company, Years later; she was Administrative Assistant at the Lockney Care Center. Willetta was forced into early retirement following complications for Syringeomyelia and Arnold-Chiari malformation. Additional surgeries for breast and lung cancer followed. Despite these illnesses, she remained involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. She especially loved family cookouts, birthday celebrations, Christmas and sitting on her back porch drinking coffee. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Aiken. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Valmeta Wisdom and Arvella Lauderback, one grandson, Josh Isom, and her precious baby Christopher Jay Isom. Survivors include her husband Jack Isom, daughter Desiree Richardson and husband Chris of Plainview, daughter Valerie Isom of Plainview, son Jeff Isom and wife Kristi of Odessa, and son Mike Isom of Plainview. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
