Tulia, Texas –Leota Mignon Miller joined her Lord, husband, and many family members and friends, passing away peacefully on January 25, 2015 while residing at hillside Heights Rehabilitation in Amarillo, Texas. She had reached the age of 96 years, having a beautiful and fulfilling life. Leota was born on September 21, 1918, at the home of her maternal grandparents in Rocky, Oklahoma. Her parents were Burly Burton and Amanda Burrow. She and three older siblings, Iva, Roy and Amy were moved to a farm five miles south of Tulia, TX when she was two years old. While at the farm, younger siblings, Fontella, Mamie Lee, Lola, Helen and Bill were born. Leota attended Houston school about two miles down the road and graduated from Tulia High School in 1935. Clerical training at Draughon’s Business College in Lubbock, TX provided education for a career as an assistant in business administration. More importantly, while there she met Everett Derward Miller. Following a courtship, they were married April 2, 1939. After living about 12 years, working in Lubbock, Everett and Leota moved to her father’s farm where she had grown up. Everett had a fulfilling life of farming. They had four children: Gary, Glen, Ken and Brenda. Everett and Leota enjoyed many years of church service, family relationships, bridge, dominoes and many other games and activities. In 1951, they moved to their home at 29 Crockett Dr. in Tulia. Leota is survived by her four children: Gary Miller of Allen, TX, Glen and Carol Miller of Guthrie, OK, Ken and Cherri Miller of Amarillo and Brenda and Tommy Shepherd of Canyon, TX. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Bretta and Davey Maldonado, Brittany Miller, Niki Miller, Trevi and Ray Holland, Jacob Miller, Chelsie and Luke Kinsey, Ashley and Josh Dye, and Shawn and Katie Shepherd. Six great grandchildren surviving her are: Kaylen Miller, Brooklyn Kinsey, Josey Maldondado, Braylen Kinsey, Asher Holland, and Beau Holland. She is also survived by three sisters: Fontella Hunt of Wichita, KS, Lola and Sandy Sanderson of Springlake, TX and Helen and Travis LaDuke of Amarillo. Leota is predeceased by her husband: Everett Miller, grandchildren: Mathew Miller and Douglas Miller, siblings: Iva Ferguson, Roy Burrow, Amy caraway, Mamie Lee Burrow and Bill Burrow. Leota’s funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 101 N. Crosby, Tulia, TX on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A family visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors, 201 W. Broadway, Tulia, TX.
