Tulia, Texas—Valerie Cross, 55, died Saturday, November 22, 2008 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 29, 2008 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Melvin Tatum and Rev. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Valerie was born April 28, 1953 in Amarillo. She grew up in Abernathy and graduated from high school there. She lived in Olton and worked for the dry cleaners there for a number of years. She graduated from South Plains College in Plainview as an LVN. She worked as an LVN at the Plainview Hospital for several years. She moved to Tulia in 1996. She worked for the Tulia Health & Rehab Center and then the Tulia Herald as the Advertisement Director for several years. She then worked for Reed Adolescent Center in Plainview as a counselor. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tulia. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law: Kim Tallant of Dallas, Amber and Eric Kelley of Tulia, Chandra and Kareem White of Tulia, Brandy and David Monreal of Olton, one son and his fiancé: Dustin Cross and Ashley Earl of Wheeler, her mother; Betty Johnson of Abernathy, two brothers and sisters-in-law; Jerry and Marci Dees of Chandler, Victor and Tonya Dees of Abernathy, one sister; Lane Trusler of Sprinklake, one step-brother and sister-in-law; Rev. Mike and Sandy Johnson of Odessa, 8 grandchildren; Gage Rodgers, Eric Cazares, Devin Van Cleave, Nathanial Olivarez, Samantha Chavez, Skyvon (Day-Day) White, Karee White and Sean David Monreal and many friends. She is preceded in death by her father; Glen Raymond Dees, her step-father; Iver L Johnson, two step-brothers; Dr. Doyle Johnson and William R. Johnson and one grandson; Isaiah Luna.
