Robert Leon Tipton, 87, of Plainview was called to heaven on January 31, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 6 at The Chapel of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, TX. Visitation will be Thursday, February 5 from 5-7 at the Funeral Home. Robert was born July 12, 1927 to Ethel Carter Tipton and Noah Tipton in Kress, Texas. The family purchased a farm and moved to the community of Halfway. Robert grew up with farming in his blood. He was well known in the community of Halfway and raised cotton, corn and grain sorghum crops. Mr. Tipton was recognized with numerous awards for crop yield and quality. He loved the younger generation of farmers and was very blessed by their love and concern for him as his body aged and he slowed down. He was affectionately referred to as “The Museum of Halfway”. Robert possessed a natural engineering ability and could creatively fix just about anything. Robert married Nora Ann Rudolph on April 5, 1959 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview. Robert accepted God’s gift of salvation and he was born again. He lived a very full and interesting life as a loving and loyal son, brother, husband, father and grandpa. Robert is preceded in death by his parents Noah and Ethel Tipton, sisters, Dorothy Willingham and Margaret Corn. Those left to cherish many wonderful memories are his wife Nora and children, Nancy Garrett (Greg) of Lubbock: Susan Hines (Tommy) of Austin, Joe Tipton (Carrie) of Houston, and John Tipton of Plano, four grandchildren, Houston Garrett, Hope Garrett, Thomas Hines and Anne Tipton and a sister Barbara Allen (Don) of Lubbock.
