Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 30, 2008 in Bellevue Cemetery in Bellevue, Texas under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Jane was born November 11, 1917 in Clay County, Texas to Thomas Henry and Esther Ethel (Stevens) Mayfield. She graduated from North Texas State University. She was an elementary teacher for 42 years with the majority of her teaching in the Lubbock School District. She was a charter member of the Lubbock Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lubbock. She is preceded in death by her husband; Arthur H. Smith, two sisters; Musette Turnbow and Lola Spann. She is survived by two nieces; Sharla Becton and husband Jerry of Amarillo and Lanette Stratton and husband Steve of Carrollton, one nephew; Tommy Spann and wife Sharon, several great nieces and nephews.
