Betty Brown McGhee, 88, of Plainview passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2015. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. McGhee was born December 10, 1926 in Plainview, TX to Herschel and Irene Brown. She graduated Plainview High School in 1943, received AA degree from Wayland College in 1944, received BA degree from West Texas State College in 1946, received MA degree from West Texas State University in 1949 and a School Library Certification in 1980. She taught school for 43 years, 33 of which were at Plainview High School where she taught Speech, Drama, English and was a Librarian. She also taught in Dumas, Odessa, Lubbock, Pecos and Roswell New Mexico Community College. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Library Association, National Education Association, Texas State Teachers Association and Texas Retired Teachers. She is preceded her in death by her parents, a sister Luella Householder, brothers Herschel Calvin Brown and Allen Dale Brown. She is survived by one daughter: Kim Mires and husband Darrell of Plainview; one son: William F. “Bill” McGhee and wife Sarah of Roswell, New Mexico; two granddaughters: Marissa Mires of Amarillo and Kelsey Mires of Plainview; three sisters-in-law: Margaret Brown of Brownfield, Betty Katherine Brown of Onalaska, Texas and Clevanne Kirgerger and husband Don of Tulsa, Oklahoma and ten nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials go to the Library fund of First Baptist Church or a favorite charity.
