Tulia, Texas—Lawson Carlton Gardner, 94, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Silverton Cemetery in Silverton, Texas with Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Funeral services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:30 pm Friday, March 13, 2015 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Carlton was born March 1, 1921 in Pioneer, Texas to Elmer Lawson and Mary Gardner. He was raised in Rock Creek, Texas and went to Silverton High. He joined the US Army Air Corps on January 11, 1940 before WWII. He was discharged on October 17, 1945. He returned to Silverton and later moved to Tulia and became the owner of State Cleaners. Carlton married Maxine Gardner in Crosbyton on April 10, 1947. She preceded him in death on November 25, 2013. Carlton enjoyed fishing and traveling. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his siblings: Alta Horton, Juanita Dickerson, Douglass Gardner, Roland Gardner, Betty Dumesnil and Alvy Gardner. He is survived by his son: Carlton Kent Gardner and wife Gail; one brother: Benny Gardner; one sister: Sue Ward. One granddaughter: Carla Arbuckle and husband Tim and many nieces and nephews.
