Tulia, Texas—Pearl Burnett, 100, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 in Canyon. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, April 20, 2015 in the Wayside Cemetery with Rev. Tom Stribling officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Pearl was born Annie Pearl Bice to Joseph L. and Emma Dewberry Bice on February 27, 1915 in the Haylake Community east of Silverton. She was the youngest of three children. At the age of 2 ½ she moved with her family ‘across the Tule Canyon’ north into the Beaverly community where she later attended school. This area became the San Jacinto Community and the mailing address became Vigo Park, TX. Pearl also attended West Texas Normal in Canyon. Pearl and Chester Burnett were married in Clovis, NM on May 28, 1933. They made their home in NW Briscoe County farming and running cattle for the next 30 years; moving to Armstrong County nearer to Wayside in 1963. Chester died in April 1967. Pearl continued to make her home at that location until failing health forced moving into assisted living at the Hudson House in Canyon in May 2011. She was very active in church and community as well as a leader in the Armstrong County Extension Homemakers. In 1981 she was recognized as the Area 1 Conservation Homemaker. Area 1 represents 52 counties in the Texas Panhandle and South Plains. Pearl celebrated her 100th birthday in February at a party hosted by her children at the Hudson House with residents of Hudson House, family and a few special guests in attendance. She is preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Bill Alan Edwards; brother, Joe Bice; and sister, Faye Vester. Surviving Pearl are her children: Joe Edd and Charlotte Burnett, Billie Ann Sprague and Ellen and Harold Edwards, all of the Tulia area. Grandchildren are Jim and Jennifer Burnett of Wayside, Lee Burnett of Lubbock, Cynthia and Trent Finck of Tulia and Joe Ted and Veronica Edwards of Columbus, Ohio, seven great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren and a very special young friend, Tad Evans of Happy. Heartfelt gratitude is expressed by the family to the Swisher Memorial Home Health, Hudson House Staff and to Hospice of the Southwest.
