TUlia, Texas--Texie Gene Hayhurst, 87 went to join her heavenly Father on Monday, April 6, 2015 in Carrollton, Texas. Cremation has taken place in Plano. There will be a Memorial Celebration of Gene and T.A ‘s lives on May 23, 2015, in Tulia, Texas. Born in Tulia, Texas on June 27th, 1927, the daughter of Fred & Lula (Faulkner) Armstrong. Gene graduated from Tulia High School 1935. On Jan 15, 1946 Gene married Jack Pearson Hood. Jack passed away on September 7, 1968. On February 9th, 1970 Texie Gene (Armstrong) Hood married T.A. Hayhurst. They joined their two families together to make one. Their home has always been built on the solid rock – Jesus Christ. A family was made through their love. The growth of each one brought forth more love. That love goes on and on. This was the beginning of the “Hayhurst Herd”. Gene worked at the Royal Theater, Ed Harris Lumber and Taylor Evans. She served on the Swisher County HUD board . She was an active member of Central Church of Christ, serving as a Sunday School teacher. She was very active in the Community of Tulia. Gene and T.A. were awarded the Pioneer Spirit Award in 2006. Gene and T.A. left Tulia and moved to Plano, Texas in 2011. She moved to Carrollton, Texas in 2014. She was a devoted mother and wife. Gene is preceded in death by her parents, Fred & Lula Armstrong, husband T.A. Hayhurst, a sister, Francis Lepine daughter Theresa Golden and great granddaughter Tiffany Golden. Survived by 5 daughters – Nancy (Ron) Melton, Barb (Rod)Hall, Bonnie Ruland, Tina (Rod) Chisholm, and Barbara (Mike) Poggis, 21 Grand Children, 46 Great Grand children and 7 Great Great Grand children, a niece Cecelia (Rick) McMasters.
