Calvin C. White, 90, of Plainview, completed his earthly journey, Saturday, April 25, 2015 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 9th and Columbia Church of Christ with Mr. Evan Weiss and Mr. Jim Brewer officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the funeral home. Mr. White was born on February 24, 1925 to William Riley and Ora Jane White in Childress County. He married Lena O. Funderburk on August 11, 1944. He grew up in Kirkland, TX and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 9, 1943. He served in the South Pacific and his ship was involved in many battles including the Battle of Leyte Bay. Mr. White received 5 bronze stars and a citation from the Secretary of the Navy for service above and beyond the call of duty. He was awarded the Purple Heart when his ship was struck by a kamikaze pilot. Mr. White and his family came to Plainview in 1958 and eventually opened his own body shop with his long time friend, Oliver Massey. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lena (Mickie) White; parents, William R. and Ora Jane White; one daughter, Gayle Teichelman; three brothers and eight sisters; and his business partner, Oliver Massey. He is survived by his four daughters, Colleen Moore & husband Bill of Granbury, TX, Katheryn Harriss & husband Arther of Plainview, TX, Elaine Heiskell & husband Greg of Amarillo, TX, and Tara Brewer & husband Tim of Wharton, TX; two brothers, Thurman White and O.J.
