Opal Barnes, 90, of Plainview, died on Monday, December 29, 2008, at Prairie House Living Center. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M., Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 2, 2009, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel, with Mr. Steve Barrett and Tony Dominguez officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mrs. Barnes was born on January 10, 1918 in Creedmore, Texas. She lived in Acuff and in Kress before moving to Plainview. She sang with the Commuity Chorus Choir at Lubbock Christian College. She was a farmer’s wife and worked side by side with her husband. They also owned and operated a small bakery in the back of the Snack Shack which her daughter owned. She was well known for her homemade pies. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and followed the kids to their sporting events and other activities. She was a member of the Garland Street Church of Christ. She married Frank Barnes on June 11, 1938. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1991. She was also preceded in death by a son, Fred Barnes; her parents, Radford and Clara Green; two sisters and one brother. Survivors include two daughters, Joan Ford and husband Denver of Plainview, Donna Barnes of Lubbock; one son, Ronn Barnes and wife Patty of San Antonio; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and one on the way. The family suggests memorials to the Diabetes Association.
