Joe Lavender, 55, died Friday, February 10, 2006 in Tulia. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2006 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Hawthorne officiating and Rev. Rob Lindley assisting. Burial will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Joe was born on July 28, 1950 in Memphis, Texas. He lived there until 1958 when his family moved to Tulia. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1968. He was a mechanic and worked along side his dad Bill for many many years. He then worked in Law Enforcement working for the Swisher County Sheriff’s Dept. for 12 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He served on the City of Tulia Zoning Board. One of the things he enjoyed doing was helping people and he and Nancy provided free Thanksgiving Dinner for people at the Conestoga Restaurant. He married Nancy Hall on Dec. 8, 2003. Survivors include wife, Nancy Lavender of Tulia; a son, Brent Lavender of Amarillo; a daughter, Shanna Sudbury of Okinawa, Japan; three step-sons, Charles, Eric, & Brent Hall all of Wellington; his mother, Vern Lavender of Tulia; three brothers, John Lavender of Kerrville, TX, Jack Lavender of Seminole, TX, and Jim Lavender of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Angel Lavender, Brittany Sudbury, and Jacob Hall.
