Ollie Kate Bandy (Plainview)

Ollie Kate Bandy, 99, went to sleep on June the 4th and awoke in presence of Jesus. Praise the Lord. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Kornerstone Funeral Chapel with Mr. Jerry Odom officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Ollie was born on February 28, 1916 to Kitty Jay & Effie Pearl Perkinson in Big Springs, Tennessee. Ollie attended the Mount Olive Methodist Church where she met the love of her life James Clyde Bandy. They attended the church as children and Clyde came to Texas in 1932 to make his fortune farming. Ollie came to Texas and she and Clyde married on March 23, 1935. They moved to a farm near Hereford, TX. They quit farming after the hail and sand convinced them there is a better way to make a living. They moved to Hale Center, TX in 1942. Ollie became an interior decorator and helped at the Bandy Grocery and Mercantile. Ollie & Clyde became co-owners of Bandy Grocery in 1954 and retired from the business in 1979. They bought their home in Plainview and lived there until both she and Clyde passed away. Ollie decided she wanted to be an artist and took lessons from Ruth Barnett in Hale Center. Her art won many awards at the South Plains Fair in Lubbock, TX. Someone asked her if she would sell some of her paintings and she said no, these are for me and my family. That being said all of her children and most of her grandchildren have her beautiful paintings. She also did knitting and crocheting and gave several of these to her family. She made every lady at the Santa Fe Living Center lap throws. Ollie was a competitor not only with her art but anything she did. She would beat you in cards, batmitten, bowling and many other things. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband James Bandy; her parents; a daughter in law, Shirley Bandy; four brothers and two sisters. Ollie is survived by her daughter, June Odom & husband Jim of Plainview; her son, Jim C. Bandy of Plainview; one granddaughter, Keila Odom Bost; five grandsons, Mike Odom, Dale Odom, Chris Bandy, Mark Bandy & Jimmie Lee Bandy; eleven great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren; and one sister in law, Lela Bandy of Fort Worth who is 99 years old. Memorials may be made to Area Community Hospice or First United Methodist of Hale Center.
