Tulia, Texas—Wayne Douglas “Doug” Payne, 82, died Sunday, June 7, 2015 in Tulia. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 10, 2015 in the Rose Hill Cemetery with Oscar Chavez, chaplain for Area Community Hospice officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Doug was born August 1, 1932 in Sam Norwood, TX to Oscar Milton and Stella Payne. He grew up in Sam Norwood and graduated from high school there. He served in the US Army from 1952-1955. He married Geraldine “Gerry” Searcy on September 26, 1953 in Clayton, NM. After his discharge they moved to Goodwell, OK and attended and graduated from Panhandle A&M University. They moved to Tulia in 1957 where he was a Teacher/Coach with the Tulia School District for 28 years. His wife Gerry passed away on January 12, 2013 in Tulia. He is survived by one daughter: Denise Dean and husband Tony of Conroe, one son: Don Payne and wife Robin of Canyon, four grandchildren: Kelly Ritchey and husband Ian of Big Spring, Coulter Payne of San Angelo, Erin Wright and husband Lynn of New Braunfels, and Patrick Michael Bielamowicz of Belton and five great grandchildren: Kartyr, Sterling, Ayden, Kylan and Addison.
