Claude W. Porter, 71, of Plainview, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at Prairie House Living Center in Plainview, Texas. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009, at Family Life Chapel of the First Baptist Church with Dr. Travis Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Claude was born on November 14, 1937 in Clairemont, Texas to Levi and Anna Porter. He grew up all over West Texas but mainly in the Post and Spur areas. He graduated from Clarendon High School. He became a bi-vocational minister and served in Lovington, N.M., Plainview, Floydada, and Balmoreah, Texas. He retired in 2003. Claude was a member of the Kiwanis Club, and an officer in the IOOF in Lovington. He was an officer and past president in the New Mexico Baptist Brotherhood Organization, member of the Baptist Convention of New Mexico State Executive Board; member of the New Mexico Children’s Home Board, and chair for the fund-raising steering committee for BSU building. He was the director of printing services for Wayland Baptist University. He was the owner of Campus Press in Plainview; owner of Desert Plains Stationers in Lovington, N.M. and received National and International recognition for commercial printing projects. He was a journalist and in sales for the Lovington Daily Leader in Lovington, N.M. He married Joan Margaret Smith on February 13, 1960 in Sunray, Texas. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2006. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, B.N. Porter, Ray Porter, Tommy Porter; three sisters, Catherine Smith, Ruth Clay, Ann Gubala. Survivors include three daughters, Jolene Mohindroo and husband Raj of Katy, Vonda Porter of Ft. Worth, Ailese Blomquist and husband Kirk of Haltom City; one son, Richard Porter of Plainview; two brothers, Billy Porter and wife Joyce of Dallas, Grady Porter and wife Ruth of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; two brothers-in-law, Bennie Clay of Lubbock, Audrey Smith of Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Ann Smith of Lubbock; two grandchildren, Krishan “Chris” Mohindroo and Katrina Mohindroo both of Katy. A visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
