Ricardo "Ricky" Martinez (Plainview)

Ricardo “Ricky” Martinez, 54, of Petersburg departed from this life on Friday, July 3, 2015 in Lubbock after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July7, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Petersburg with Rev. Ted Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the funeral home. Ricky was born on August the 29, 1960 to the late Ynocencio and Elida Martinez. He was a life-long resident of Petersburg where and attended schools and graduated from Petersburg High School in 1979. He was the editor and ran the Petersburg Post Newspaper for many years. Ricky was preceded in death by his parents, Ynocencio and Elida Martinez; sister, Nelda Marquez; and a brother, Elmo Martinez. He is survived by nephew/son, Orlando Marquez of Petersburg and surrogate daughter, Minerva Orozco and husband Evaristo; brothers, Isidro Martinez and wife Tommie of Oklahoma, Mario Martinez and wife Susie of Petersburg, Larry Martinez of Petersburg; sister, Maria Herston and husband Ricky of Alabama; sister-in-law, Kathy Martinez of Alabama; two nieces, Cassie Jo Martinez, Lorena Martinez; and six nephews, Marcos, John Paul, Norman, Daniel, Geraldo, and Homer. Ricky leaves behind many life-long and loving friends and family, many of which were by his bedside at the time of his passing. Memorials may be made to Petersburg Beautification Project.
