Tulia, Texas—Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Ervin, 88, passed away on July 11, 2015 in Weatherford, Texas after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, July 17, 2015 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Ernie McGaughey, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Betsy was born on December 12, 1926 in Amarillo, Texas to Claude S. and Sally Dudley. She was raised in Vigo Park and Tulia. She attended Tulia public schools. She graduated from Tulia High School and was valedictorian of her class. She attended the University of Texas in Austin. She married J.W. Ervin, Jr. in Tulia on September 14, 1947. She was a homemaker. She lived most of her life in Tulia. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tulia. In 2001 she moved to Taos, New Mexico. She moved to Weatherford, Texas in 2008. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; her son: James William Ervin and her daughter: Sharon Glasscock. She is survived by her son: Bill Ervin and his wife Criseyda Koonce of Weatherford, Texas. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Heather Opstedal and her husband Chilion Opstedal of Taos, New Mexico, Jacob Ervin and his beloved, Carla Norvill of Denton, Texas, Ashaun Eppes and her husband Johnny Eppes of Lewisville, Texas, Logan Glasscock of Taos, New Mexico and Laura Ervin of Denton, Texas. She is also survived by one great grandchild, Kylen Opstedal of Taos, New Mexico. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff at Santa Fe Health and Rehabilitation and Solaris Hospice for their loving and untiring attention to Betsy’s comfort and well-being. Many thanks to everyone who sent cards, came by to visit and the many prayers during her illness.
