Tulia, Texas—Wanda Jetuan (Clevenger) George, 81, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 in Plainview. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Central Church of Christ with Bob Colson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held from 6-7pm on Friday, February 6, 2009 at the funeral home. Jetuan was born May 15, 1927 in Wellington, Texas to Jeff and Oma Clevenger. The family moved to Swisher County in 1929 to a farm 9 miles NE of Tulia, later moving to Tulia. Jetuan graduated from Tulia High School in 1945, and after graduating from Chillicothe Business College in Missouri, she worked in the County Clerk’s office in Canyon, Texas for two years. She moved back to Tulia and began working for the First National Bank until she retired. She and daughter Melody then opened and operated a gift shop, The Family Tree, for many years. Jetuan loved people and loved cooking and organic gardening. Many people will remember her for the wonderful meals she prepared and delivered to the sick and elderly. She was also a talented seamstress. Jetuan married Billy Joe George in Clovis, NM in 1948. She is survived by her husband Bill of Plainview, four children: Melody Jennings and husband Ray of Tulia; David George of Tulia; Mickie Deal and husband Jack of Statesboro, Georgia; Monica Barror and husband Lloyd of Midland, Texas, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren that loved her dearly. One sister: Vonda Woolsey of Amarillo; two brothers: Deryl Clevenger of Hart, Texas and Wister Clevenger of Runaway Bay, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and Oma Clevenger, her grandson, Newly Blocker and her brother, Harold Clevenger.
