Tulia, Texas—Dorothy Willard Shannon, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Harris Hospital in Ft. Worth. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 10:00 am in the First Baptist Church in Tulia with Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Dorothy and her husband were residents in Tulia for 45 years. Dorothy and Raymond were married in Tulia on February 12, 1940. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary surrounded by friends and family on February 12, 2015. Dorothy was born to C.E. and Mattie Willard on August 20, 1924. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother who loved being surrounded by her family. She very lovingly nurtured and cared for her family. She loved to cook and was known for her famous chocolate cakes and chicken fried steak. Her family was her legacy and her family has been blessed beyond measure by her sweet, gentle spirit. She was a faithful Christian and ministered to others that God placed in her life. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters; Etha Klepper, Alma Wilson, Frances Barry and Katherine Parker, her brothers; Claude Willard, Lee Willard and Eldon Willard, her infant son: Billy Loyd and her son: Larry. Dorothy is survived by her husband: Raymond Shannon, her daughter and son-in-law; Lois and Byron Benard of Ft. Worth, her daughter-in-law: Gwyn Ann Shannon of Tulia, her sons and daughters-in-law; Ronnie and Kay Shannon of Plainview and James and Judy Shannon of Abernathy, 10 grandchildren; Julie and Mike Mullender, Kristi and Kenneth Martin, Paula Shannon and Bill Hannigan, Kenny and Amanda Shannon, Rhonda and Chip McCampbell, Lisa and Hoyt Taggart, John David and Anne Shannon, Jennifer and Marc Dressler, Jami and Seth Cope and Jared and Kristin Shannon, 20 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
