Ruby Harris Benton (Plainview)

Ruby Harris Benton, 94, of Plainview passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 13, 2009 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Q. D. Bevill officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. She was born on October 30, 1914 in Lockney, Texas to William Lee and Lizzie May Good Harris. She married Cecil Benton on January 23. 1937 in Hereford, Texas. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1986. Mrs. Benton grew up in Dawn, Texas and after she married Cecil they moved to Edmonson in 1945 where they farmed. In 1973 the Benton’s moved to Plainview and she worked as a dietician for Plainview Hospital. In 1975 she worked for House of Ceramics until 1987. Ruby also worked at several church day nurseries and kept children at her home. She did volunteer work at FISH and was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter: Elaine Benton of Amarillo; a grandson Bracken Hill and his wife Heather of Plainview; two great grandchildren Kylee Hill and Emilee Hill both of Plainview. A visitation for family and friends wil be at the funeral home Thursday, February 12, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
