Tulia, Texas--John Webster “Jack” Keim, Jr. passed away on Sunday, September 27th 2015, in the VA hospital in Amarillo. He was given a final salute at the VA upon his passing with the playing of taps as his body was draped in an American flag. Jack was born on September 11, 1923 to John Webster Keim and Suzanne Weatherford Frye Keim. He married Maxine Rebecca Doss on February 14, 1948. Jack was preceded in death by his wife in 2013 and his parents, his In-Laws; M.C. and Ola Cox Doss He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joe Keim and his wife Fay; sister, Mary Rose Keim Spann and her husband Ed; sister, Elizabeth Keim Patterson and her husband Pat; and a brother-in-law, Arnold Doss and nephew Ronnie Doss. He is survived by his four children, daughter, Jackie Lynn Keim Driskill and her husband David of Lubbock; son, John Morley Keim and his wife Jerrella of Tulia; daughter, Nancy Ann Keim of Tulia; and son, Alan Wade Keim and his wife Michelle of Tulia. Jack is also survived by four grandchildren, Jamison Driskill and his wife Ashley of Austin; Michael Driskill and his fiancée Sarah Garrard of Houston; Sydney Keim and Nicole Keim both of Tulia and one great grandson, Sebastian Garrard. Jack is also survived by a sister-in-law, Audrey Doss of Amarillo, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Jack grew up in Tulia where early in life he received the Gold Star Award, the highest county level achievement award made available through Texas 4-H. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1941. Jack proudly served in the Army Air Force during World War II as a Corporal in the 462nd Fighter Squadron, 506th Fighter Group from 1943-1946. He was awarded two bronze stars and a good conduct medal. After the war, he attended Texas Technological College. Jack met Maxine on a blind date arranged by his sister, Elizabeth and her friend Marian McGlaun Thompson. After their marriage, Jack and Maxine lived in Tulia and raised their four children. Jack farmed and ranched for many years. After he retired from farming, he continued to work in agricultural related endeavors. He was active in many activities with his children such as 4-H, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Jack was actively involved in the Swisher County Historical Commission and traveled to many state conferences and training workshops as well as serving as president. Keim family reunions with Jack’s siblings and their families were integral part of family life, as were family vacations. Jack loved fly fishing in the high country in New Mexico and Colorado. In 2008, Jack and Maxine received the Pioneer Spirit Award from the Tulia Chamber of Commerce. One informal group that meant a lot to Jack was the coffee shop gang at El Burrito. He continued to go for coffee in the morning and afternoon, most days until his illness took him to the VA hospital in Amarillo. Jack’s family will receive friends and relatives at the Kornerstone Funeral Directors at 201 W. Broadway Ave in Tulia on Friday evening, October 2, 2015 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 119 N. Briscoe, on October 3, at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will be held immediately afterward at Rose Hill Cemetery, Tulia, Texas.
