Tulia, Texas-Kay Young, 71, died Monday, September 28, 2015 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, October 1, 2015 in the First Baptist Church in Tulia with Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Lubbock and Pastor LaQuita Jones, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Snyder, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Kay was born on March 18, 1944 in Childress to Joe and Helen Carothers. She grew up in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School in 1962. She married Boyd Young on November 6, 1964. She worked for First National Bank for several years. Then in 1985 she went to work for Dr. Richards. She worked for Swisher Memorial Hospital for 20 years when she retired in December 2014. She was an adult leader with the Swisher County 4-H for 46 years and in June, 1983 she won the Texas 4-H Salute To Excellence Award. She also volunteered with the Home Demonstration Club for many years. She loved Texas Tech, the Texas Rangers and the NY Yankees. She loved watching her grandkids, nieces and nephews in their different activities. She is survived by her husband: Boyd Young of Tulia, two sons: Steve Young and wife Wendy of Nazareth and Layne Young and wife April of Tulia, two brothers: Tommy Carothers of Tulia and Joe Lynn Carothers of Santa Fe, TX, two sisters: Debbie Brock of Tulia and Fayetta Moore of Wewoka, OK, five grandchildren: Casey Watkins and wife Nicole, Anndee Young, Landry Young, Brett Young and Will Young, one great grandson: Jace Watkins and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Tulia Cemetery Association, Po Box 116, Tulia, TX 79088 or to the 4-H Scholarship Fund, 310 W. Broadway, Tulia, TX 79088.
